In this article, I will be showing the steps required for installation of Weblogic 12.2.1 server and configuration of the various sample domains, such as MedRec and the Examples Server, in your WebLogic Server installation.
1.Download JDK 1.8 from here.
2.Download Oracle WebLogic Server 12c (12.2.1) software. Refer here for more information on choosing the right installer.
3.We also need A Linux machine with version 6 or greater of Oracle Linux or Red Hat Linux. For this article purpose, I have created a machine with hostname=fmwdemo.com and Oracle Linux 6.7
4.Create a new group and user.
groupadd -g 54321 oinstall
useradd -u 54321 -g oinstall oracle
5. Create the directories in which the Oracle software will be installed. For more information on file structure please refer this.
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/product/12.2.1
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/config/domains
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/java
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/config/applications
chown -R oracle:oinstall /u01
chmod -R 775 /u01/
6. Install JDK at $JAVA_HOME location
tar -zxvf /stage/12cR2/jdk-8u72-linux-x64.gz
The tar options are:
- z: unzip
- x: extract
- v: verbose
- f: filename
7. Create an environment file in $HOME/mw.env and source it.
export WLS_HOME=$MW_HOME/wlserver export WL_HOME=$WLS_HOME
8. If you are using Oracle Linux 6, then as specified in MOS Note [ID 1487773.1], amend the “/etc/security/limits.d/90-nproc.conf” file, making the following change.
9. Installing WebLogic Server 12c (12.2.1) Using the Generic Installer and Configure various sample domain that are provided out-of-box for practice.
a) Unzip the installer’s zip file
b) Run the Java virtual machine with the -jar option, calling the generic installer JAR file that you already downloaded. The file name is fmw_22.214.171.124.0_wls.jar.
After the installer extracts files, it analyses your system to see if it meets the minimum requirements (CPU speed, for example). If everything checks out, the graphical Oracle Universal Installer starts.
c) If this is is the first installation on the machine you will need to specify an inventory location. Enter the inventory location, like “/u01/app/oraInventory” and click the “OK” button. Follow the screenshots.
d) On the Auto Updates screen, check “Skip Auto Updates and click next.
e) On the next screen, Specify “Oracle Home” location and click next.
f) On the next screen, select Complete with Examples.
g) On the next screen, Prerequisite checks will be done.
h) On the Security Updates screen, uncheck “I wish to receive security updates via My Oracle Support.
i) The next screen gives the Installation Summary. Click Install. If you want a response file to be generated- click the Save Response File option.
j) The following screen will show the installation progress.
k) On the last screen, make sure you have Automatically Launch the Quickstart Configuration Wizard and click Finish.
l) The Quick Start Configuration Wizard will start .
m) Give the relevant details on configuration screen and click create.
Now if you notice with just one click, Quickstart wizard has configured 3 sample weblogic domains for us to practice.
Hope this helps.
