In this post I will be covering the steps required for upgrading a weblogic domain from 12.1.3 to 12.2.1.
Before starting with the upgrade, I already had installed and configured a weblogic domain 12.1.3 with one Admin and two Managed Servers.
Pre-requisites for Up-gradation:
A) Download the required jdk and software packages from edelivery . I will be using following :
- JDK 8 – jdk-8u74-linux-x64.tar.gz
- FMW 12.2.1 package – V78156-01.zip
B) Shutdown the servers and kill all the running java processes.
ps -ef | grep Admin
ps -ef | grep Nodemanager
ps -ef | java
kill -9 (process id)
Also, undeploy applications, if any.
C) Back up the domain
D) Create the directory where new Oracle software will be installed.
mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/product/fmw1221
We already have following directories:
E) Update the environment file with following paths :
Follow the following steps to start the upgrade process
Step 1 – Install the new JDK
$ cd $ORACLE_BASE
$ tar -xvzf /media/sf_Share_VM/12cR2/jdk-8u72-linux-x64.tar.gz
Update the $JAVA HOME with correct path
Step 2 – Install Weblogic 12.2.1 in new Middleware Home . For steps, see this link.
Step 3 – Set the CONFIG_JVM_ARGS environment variable
export CONFIG_JVM_ARGS = “-Djava.security.egd=file:/dev/./urandom”
Step 4 – Run the Reconfiguration Wizard
On the Reconfiguration wizard screen, add the existing domain location and click Next
Next screen shows the Setup progress and click Next.
Select the Domain Mode and JDK and click Next
On the Advanced configuration screen, select Managed Servers, Clusters and Coherence.
On the Managed Servers screen, Select the managed servers. (Already added in our case)
Add Clusters in the next screen
On the Machines screen, Add Machine Name. (Already added in our case)
Assign Servers to Machine on next screen.
If you are happy with the Configuration Summary, Click “Reconfig”.
Check the Reconfiguration Progress.
Last screen shows the domain location and Admin console url. Click Finish.
Step 5– Start the admin server through using .startWeblogic.sh. Once admin server is up and running, you can check through the admin console that all the servers are now upgraded to 12.2.1.
This brings us to the end of Weblogic upgrade.
